Additional Note: A news app is a mobile app whose primary function is to provide stories and updates on current events, business, entertainment, opinion, politics, sports and technology (e.g., Apple News, BuzzFeed, The New York Times, etc.); includes magazine apps; excludes social media and weather apps. A mobile app is a software app that is developed for use on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets; excludes browser-based web apps. Smartphones are any voice handset with an advanced operating system (e.g., Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Windows Phone, etc.) and features/capabilities that resemble a PC.
Methodology: Estimates are based on the analysis of survey and traffic data from research firms and regulatory agencies; historical trends; and country-specific demographic and socioeconomic factors.
